Every DDR4 module in a server

If it came out of a server and the label says DDR4, we buy it. Below is what we see most.

32GB RDIMM

The single most common module we buy, across 2400, 2666, 2933 and 3200. The workhorse of Skylake and Cascade Lake fleets.

16GB RDIMM

Huge installed base, still steady demand. Individually modest, and it adds up fast when a fleet is retired.

64GB RDIMM & LRDIMM

Higher-density builds. Strong numbers per module because one 64GB part frees a slot that two 32GBs would occupy.

128GB LRDIMM

Four-socket and memory-heavy builds. Fewer of them about, and priced accordingly.

8GB and 4GB

Older and lower value each, but genuinely saleable in volume. Send them with the rest rather than sorting them out.

OEM-labelled

Dell, HPE SmartMemory, Lenovo TruDDR4, Cisco. Some platforms accept nothing else, which is exactly why the label is worth money.

What moves the number

Five things, and all five are printed on the sticker or visible on the module.

Capacity per module

The biggest factor and not linear. One 64GB module beats two 32GBs because it frees a DIMM slot for the next buyer.

Speed grade

3200 over 2933 over 2666 over 2400. Faster modules drop into slower boards; slower ones cannot go the other way.

RDIMM or LRDIMM

Different buyers, different platforms. Load-reduced parts at 64GB and above are their own, thinner market.

Vendor and label

Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron originals set the baseline. OEM labelling adds for locked platforms and subtracts elsewhere.

Matched lots

Ninety-six identical modules out of one fleet price better per module than ninety-six assorted ones.

Physical condition

Contacts and the heat spreader. Trays protect both; a bag of loose DIMMs protects neither.

The prepaid label applies whatever the size of the lot. There is no threshold you have to reach first.

    Prepaid label

    We email it to you. Trays or anti-static tubes in a padded carton, hand it to the carrier, done. Nothing to pay and nothing to arrange.

    Trays, not bags

    Anti-static trays are how memory should travel. Loose modules rub, bend and arrive with damaged contacts — the one avoidable way to lose money here.

    Pallet lots

    Above a pallet we switch to freight, which we book, pay for and insure at the agreed offer value.

    Leave them populated

    If the servers are going too, do not pull the DIMMs. It costs you value and an afternoon both.

    Check-in and payment

    We check the shipment against the agreed list, tell you what we found, and pay by ACH — typically the same business day it lands.

Straight answers

I only have eight modules out of one server. Worth sending?

Yes. There is no minimum. Eight DIMMs out of one decommissioned box is a completely normal enquiry, and they ship on a prepaid label we email you — you will not be out of pocket for anything.

How do I read the label?

Everything you need is printed on the sticker: capacity (8GB, 16GB, 32GB), speed (2133, 2400, 2666, 2933, 3200) and type (RDIMM, LRDIMM, UDIMM). If in doubt, photograph one module and send it — we will read it.

What's the difference between RDIMM and LRDIMM for selling?

They go to different buyers. RDIMM is the volume of the market and covers most 8GB to 64GB modules. LRDIMM is load-reduced, used for the highest-density builds, and is generally the 64GB and 128GB parts. LRDIMM at high capacity is a thinner but often stronger market.

Does the speed grade matter?

Yes. A 3200 module drops happily into a board that only runs 2666; the reverse does not work. That asymmetry is why faster grades hold value better, even where the capacity is identical.

Does it matter whose name is on it?

It does, in both directions. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron originals are the baseline. OEM-labelled parts — Dell, HPE SmartMemory, Lenovo TruDDR4 — carry a premium for the platforms that will only accept their own labelling, and a discount for everything else.

Should I pull the memory out of the servers first?

Only if you are keeping the servers. If the whole machine is going, leave the DIMMs in — a populated server is worth more than an empty one plus a tray of memory, and it saves you an afternoon.

Do you buy DDR3, or DDR5?

Both — see server memory for the full range. DDR5 carries the strongest numbers right now; DDR3 is a thinner market but still a real one.

Do you buy modules that threw errors?

No. We buy memory that was working when it came out of service, because we sell it on to be used again. Flag anything questionable when you send the list rather than shipping it and hoping.
