What we buy

Whole chassis-loads, partial refreshes, or the drives left over once you have pulled what you are keeping.

SATA

2.5" read-intensive and mixed-use, 240GB through 7.68TB. Samsung PM883/PM893, Intel D3-S4510/S4610, Micron 5300 and 5400.

SAS

12Gb dual-port, 800GB through 15.36TB. Samsung PM1643/PM1653, Kioxia PM6, Seagate Nytro. Still the backbone of a lot of arrays.

NVMe U.2 & U.3

The strongest per-drive numbers on this page. Intel/Solidigm P-series, Samsung PM9A3 and PM1733, Kioxia CD6 and CM6, Micron 7450.

M.2 and E1.S

Boot drives, BOSS cards and ruler form factors. Smaller money each, but they add up across a rack and we take them with the rest.

OEM-badged

Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco and NetApp firmware. We buy these as readily as generic units — the badge moves the number in both directions depending on the model.

Still in caddies

Leave them in. Sleds and caddies add to the line rather than getting in the way, and the drives travel better mounted.

SHEET 03Valuation

What moves the number

We price each drive on what it is worth back in service. Specification drives the offer — nothing here is weighed.

01

Interface

The biggest single split. NVMe generally leads, SAS and SATA follow, and the gap between them moves with what the market is short of.

02

Capacity

Not linear. The larger capacities carry the strongest per-drive numbers, and the smallest ones are worth having mainly in volume.

03

Endurance class

Mixed-use and write-intensive drives carry a higher rating than read-intensive, and price accordingly at the same capacity.

04

Remaining life

How much of the rated endurance is left. If you can pull the wear indicator from your monitoring, send it — it lets us price tighter and firmer.

05

Caddies and form factor

A drive in its Dell or HPE caddy is worth more than a bare one, and U.3 versus U.2 versus E1.S is a different buyer for the same capacity.

06

Batch uniformity

Forty matched drives out of one refresh price better per drive than forty of assorted models, capacities and ages.

SHEET 04Shipping

Ten drives or ten pallets

The route changes with the size of the lot. What does not change is that we pay for it and you approve the number first.

  • 01

    Small lots — prepaid label

Under a pallet, we email you a prepaid parcel label. Box the drives in their caddies or anti-static sleeves, pad the carton, and hand it over. Nothing to pay and nothing to arrange.

  • 02

    Pallet lots — freight

We supply pallets, wrap and straps, book the carrier, and issue the bill of lading ahead of pickup. Insured in transit at the agreed offer value.

  • 03

    Still in the chassis

If pulling them is a job you would rather not do, tell us — in selected metros we do it on site, and everywhere else we can price the chassis with the drives in it.

  • 04

    Anti-static, always

Sleeves or caddies, never bare and never loose. Padding between layers. It costs nothing and it is the difference between a clean check-in and a revised offer.

  • 05

    Check-in and payment

We check every shipment against the agreed list on arrival, tell you what we found, and pay by ACH — typically the same business day it lands.

SHEET 05Questions

Straight answers

Do you have a minimum quantity?

No. Ten drives pulled from one chassis is a normal order, and so is a pallet. Small lots ship on a prepaid label we send you; larger lots go by freight we arrange and pay for. Same offer process either way.

How do you price an SSD?

Per drive, on what it is worth back in service — capacity, interface, endurance class, remaining life and whether it comes with a caddy. Nothing is weighed and nothing is averaged across the lot.

Why aren't your prices on the site?

Because two drives showing the same capacity can be worth very different money once interface, endurance rating and remaining life are taken into account. Any published figure would be wrong for most people.

Does wear on the drive matter?

Yes, and it is worth telling us. A drive with most of its rated endurance left is worth more than the same model close to the end of it. If you can pull the wear indicator or remaining-life figure from your monitoring, include it — if not, we will assess on arrival and the offer accounts for it.

Do you buy read-intensive as well as mixed-use?

Both. Mixed-use and write-intensive drives carry the higher endurance rating and usually the stronger number, but read-intensive drives are the volume of most refreshes and sell perfectly well.

What about NVMe form factors?

U.2, U.3, M.2 and E1.S all fine, as are add-in cards. Tell us which — the connector matters more than it looks, and an E1.S ruler is a different buyer to a U.2.

Do you buy drives that aren't detected?

No. We buy drives that were working when they came out of service, because we sell them on to be used again. If part of the lot is questionable, flag it when you send the list rather than shipping it and hoping.

How and when do you pay?

ACH once the shipment is checked in against the agreed list, typically the same business day it lands. Wire on request. We don't pay cash, and ID is required prior to payment.

Got SSDs coming out?
